Effective January 1, 2017, Microsoft will be increasing the prices for customers buying enterprise software and cloud services in British Pound in the EU/EFTA region. Microsoft though has clarified that this pricing change will not apply to consumer software or consumer cloud services.
In a blog post on the TechNet UK blog, the company has shared that they periodically assess the impact of local pricing of their products and services to ensure there is reasonable alignment across the region and this change is an outcome of this assessment.
The latest revision is in harmony with the recent adjustments to pricing in Norwegian Krone and Swiss Franc made in April 2016. From January, the British Pound prices for on-premises enterprise software will increase by 13% and most enterprise cloud prices in British Pounds will increase by 22% to realign close to Euro levels.
Of course, for indirect sales where Microsoft products are sold through resellers, final prices and currency of sale will continue to be determined by them. Also, this revision will not affect existing orders from business customers under annuity volume licensing agreements for products that are subject to price protection. However, prices for new product additions and purchases under new contracts will be as defined by the prices at the time of order.
