Precept were delighted to learn that Business Development Management Chris Rankin was shortlisted for Business Eye Magazine’s young business personality of the year.
The category is open to senior managers and leaders in businesses and organisations across the private, public and voluntary sectors who are aged 35 or younger at 31 October 2018, and whose leadership and achievement can be clearly demonstrated.
The awards, which are organised by Business Eye magazine and supported by First Trust Bank, shine a light on the north’s small business sector and recognised its top performers across 14 different categories, celebrating industry and business success as well as innovation, customer support and community contribution.
The BEFTA’s 2018, an exciting new version of Northern Ireland’s premier business awards, will take place at the Belfast Waterfront on Thursday, 22nd November, 2018.
The BEFTA’s, the Business Eye First Trust Bank Business Awards, take on the highly successful 12-year mantle of the former UTV Business Eye Awards….with a new title, a new lead sponsor and a new line-up for 2018.
First Trust Bank, a key supporter of the Northern Ireland business community, has partnered Business Eye on the annual Business Eye First Trust Bank Small Business Awards for the past three years and will now sponsor the November awards, which cover all businesses – large, small and medium-sized – across the region.

A little bit more about Chris . . .
A naturally strong leader, Chris has been employed at Precept IT since February 2018. At the tender age of 23, Chris managed a business with annual sales of £12m!
Chris is an experienced Director with a proven track record in business working in the Retail, E-Commerce and IT industry with extensive experience and skills gained in the creation of a new online offering which boasted 800% growth in its first two years of trading. He is highly ambitious, efficient, personable, adaptable, organised and creative.
In his current role Chris is responsible for all aspects of developing Precept IT for the future, from sales growth to staff initiatives, building upon existing client relationships and seeking new opportunities through networking.
Chris has a thorough track record. He has an accomplished record of delivering and exceeding business goals, personal targets, managing and developing an existing client base whilst focusing on developing new business engagements, complex projects and new style of IT offerings working within a fast paced goal oriented team.
Being responsible for all new business generated on behalf of the company, Chris benefits from a strong track record in selling a wide range of IT solutions, with a strong ability to assess sales opportunities, close deals with proven experience and building sales proposals.
Developing long term proactive relationships and meaningful results for his clients Chris has vast experience of both selling and utilising cloud computing, liaising with customers and discussing sales for new technology or needs.
He is responsible for agreeing new contracts with new business clients on behalf of the company and educating clients on new technology and what may benefit their company.
Before joining Precept IT Chris had his own business, a Belfast fashion retail store and e-commerce website targeting the middle market. From November 2016 until January 2018 he used the experience he had gained in 7 years in the retail industry coupled with passion about all aspects of fashion to create and open Ora Ora.
He wanted to create a modern, different and unique brand providing customers with fashion at affordable prices with a luxurious feel, empowering and equipping millennial women with the fashion required for all elements of their life. He stocked brands such a Rare London, Chi Chi London, Girl in Mind, Motel Rocks, Love Triangle and Pretty Lavish.
Prior to owning his own business, Chris was employed by multi-million pound female fashion retailer Exhibit which was founded by his family in 1983.
Chris assumed the position of Director from 2014 until 2016 with responsibility for 30 stores in Northern Ireland and Ireland with a turnover of £12 million and 200 staff. After the success of the brand’s e-Commerce website managed by Chris, he was promoted to Company Director overseeing and running all aspects of the business to drive the company forward as a multi-channel retailer. Responsible for the performance of the company, formulating and implementing company policy directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of the company. Ensuring that the objectives and high standards of performance where understood and owned by the management and other employees. Close monitoring of daily and weekly sales results against plans and budget, taking action where necessary.

Chris identified a new route for business growth and assumed this role combining his love of design technology and passion for retail. He was responsible for Exhibit’s move into online sales. He completely redesigned the brand’s website, setting up the online store using Shopify and managing the company’s digital marketing. He was responsible developing the strategy to grow the online business as well as for the core marketing channels including search, email and social, managing channel performance to agreed targets and maintaining analytics, KPIs and reporting. Launching the e-commerce website was one of the proudest moments of his career so far. Showing growth of 800% by year two with a turnover of £300,000.
Senior Buyer from 2010-2016
Chris was responsible for all buying categories and managed a buying team of three people to a sales portfolio of £12 million per year. He was responsible for future sales, margin and stock targets within budget and the sourcing of reactive rapid fashion ranges for the 16-35 female market. He negotiated strategically to buy multiple own branded and branded ranges for Exhibit’s 30 stores. He built and maintained strong relationships with key UK, European and Far East suppliers negotiating price and terms of products with suppliers to help mitigate issues or risks. He monitored the competitive market place. Chris is passionate and knowledgeable about great product and how to deliver it, achieving market leading innovation and a constant flow of exciting newness.
Chris also gained invaluable experience as Area Manager helping deliver growth, maximise sales, providing the team with a motivating stimulating and supportive environment, maintained and increased standards of customer service across Exhibit’s 30 stores. He was also involved in visual merchandising, product development, graphic design, human resources and training, supply chain management and creative management.
Educated at University of Dundee and Campbell College Belfast, Chris is married to Rachel and has a one year old daughter, Charlotte.
